At St. Johannes Lutheran Church, we strive to be a beacon of hope and support for those in need. This week, we had the privilege of assisting Sam, a resilient woman who has faced the challenges of homelessness and financial instability.
Sam's journey has not been easy. After being evicted from her apartment, she spent approximately three weeks without a permanent home. Despite these hardships, Sam remained determined to improve her situation. She found a job and managed to save $252 towards her overdue electricity bill, but she still needed an additional $150 to settle the debt and secure stable housing.
The Navigation Center had been working with Sam for about four weeks to address her eviction and electricity issues. Partnering with Next Steps, St. Johannes Lutheran Church provided the remaining funds needed. The church contributed $75, and an anonymous donor generously matched this amount, covering the total required.
When our volunteers gathered around Sam to offer a prayer, it was a deeply moving experience. Sam, overwhelmed with gratitude, expressed her heartfelt thanks, saying, "Thank you. I really needed that!"
Sam's story is a powerful reminder of the strength people can find with the support of a loving community and a gracious God. By the beginning of next week, or possibly even sooner, Sam hopes to have a stable place to call home. Although her employment situation is not yet secure, she is committed to working hard and maintaining a positive attitude. Everyone at the Navigation Center has been impressed with her determination.
At St. Johannes Lutheran Church, we are proud to make a meaningful impact each week through God's grace. If you feel moved to contribute, consider donating to the Oswald Fund or the Semkin Fund to help us continue our outreach efforts. You can write a check to St. Johannes or give online, where both funds are available in the pulldown menu.
God is good! Let us continue to be His hands and feet, bringing light and hope to our community.
